Copenhagen as a City of Immigrants: A City Tour Through Past and Present

Ved professor, dr.phil. Garbi Schmidt, RUC

When you walk the streets of Copenhagen today, signs of migration are everywhere. Copenhagen is a metropolitan and cosmopolitan city, but is the ethnic and cultural diversity of Copenhagen something new? This guided tour will take you through the old ghetto of Copenhagen and introduce you to the lasting impact of Polish seasonal workers, Russian anarchists, French catholic nuns, and Chinese and Muslim artists, who found their way to Copenhagen in a distant past. Professor in Cultural Encounters Garbi Schmidt, who has written extensively about the immigrant history of Denmark, will guide you on this tour.

We will meet at Kongens Nytorv and will walk through the Inner City to Assistens Cemetery in Nørrebro.
